Here we go again...
Last year Brisbane's Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said he was going to take some more of heritage listed Victoria Park and make it into roadway. Well we say no, and we are calling on the Queensland Government to say no as well. It's time our open green space, our trees and our very special parkland is properly protected - as it's meant to be.
We want the Queensland Government to stop Brisbane's Lord Mayor from widening the roadway within the bounds of this precious inner city green space. With our growing population, and ever increasing high-density living, Brisbane's remaining green space, trees and public parklands will become increasingly valuable as 'living infrastructure'.
The Deed of Grant in Trust for Victoria Park states it is to be used for park purposes only, but successive State and Local Governments have continued to chip away at it for roads, rail and private infrastructure.
We need your help to remind the government that Victoria Park is here for the people. That it is important for its historical and cultural value, for the health benefits it provides and the environmental services it delivers.
This is the Queensland Government's chance to be the first to say “no more” before there is nothing left for future generations.
Once it is gone, it is gone for good.

There is a better way
In 2014 around 700 people over five days let the Queensland Government know that, instead of running the Bus&Train Tunnel through the park, there was a better way and that they wanted Victoria Park protected, always. They didn't want yet another major road and rail infrastructure project going through this special place - not another Legacy Way, not another spaghetti jungle.
But our governments just won't listen and we have to do it all over again. This is a park that is here for our well being. It is a place where nearby residents, students, businesses, health providers and visitors to the region can connect, relax, exercise, and regenerate.
To date, local and state governments have ignored their own requirement to protect the park. It is time to listen to the people and stop destroying this valuable asset.
